Northeast Data Corp. was founded in 1991 in Rochester
NY by four engineers from Eastman Kodak Company who had
many years of experience in large-scale development of
document storage and retrieval systems. Their knowledge
included software architecture on the Digital Equipment
Corp. VAX/VMS platform as well as Microsoft Windows and
Macintosh. An extensive grounding in formal software
development practices including SEI/CMM as well as deep
technical abilities in hardware and software enabled the
company to prosper through the '90s, and evolve toward a
total commitment to the Microsoft platform.
Early product successes included applications built
on the Windows 3.x operating system and targeted at
Eastman Kodak products, including the E700 blood
analyzer series and microfilm digitizing systems. This
was followed by an evolution to digital imaging
technology concurrently with a movement from application
to component development, resulting in a family of
products for displaying and manipulating digital images
on the PC hardware/Microsoft OS platform.
The NED Image Control was the product that sustained
the company through the late '90s, as additional
software components were brought online to take
advantage of the Microsoft "ActiveX" component
technology.
The imaging components developed in the '90s, as well
as those developed up until present day, have sold well
throughout the world, with the heaviest concentrations
being west coast USA, northeast USA, western
Europe, and United Kingdom.
Northeast Data Corp. is incorporated in the state of
New York. In 1998 the company headquarters moved from
Rochester NY to Charlotte NC in order to take advantage
of the improved availability of technical talent in
Charlotte.
